Video Plumbing Inspection

Graphic representation of the case study
Saturn Systems was contracted by a customer to upgrade the software control system for a high technology sewer inspection system. This suitcase based system is used by drain cleaning professionals and features a remotely operated video camera controlled by software that runs on a customized laptop. The application records video, operator audio, and distance travelled by the inspection camera. Saturn engineers added several new features, upgraded the system for Windows 7, and integrated several disparate third party video capture and production components into a single package, saving the client thousands of dollars in annual licensing fees.

Terrain Simulation and Awareness Software

Graphic representation of the case study
Saturn Systems was contracted to provide software development services to support a situational awareness terrain simulation program. This application overlays acquired imagery and GPS information onto synthetic, computer-generated landforms. The program has many potential applications including pilot assistance, unmanned drone vehicle operation, and client sensor testing. Initial work involved integrating the original Windows and Linux versions of the code into a common code base to improve maintainability. Other tasks included adding a polyline feature to mark terrain items that had previously been single point entities, and adding multithreading for building synthetic Regions of Interest (ROIs) in the background while continuing to process real-time camera information. A second, related project involved creating a shared library (linux) and DLL (Windows) to encapsulate common code features into a reusable component for external use. Additional tasks have involved adding new features, end-client support and other requests as needed.
